Our Story

Hi, I'm Tania, the founder of A Sack Of Wheat.

Tania Klemm hairdressing with client for Wella Service Excellence Award 1990-1991

I’ve lived and worked in Murray Bridge, South Australia my entire life. For 16 years, I worked as a hairdresser, a career that not only brought me close to so many wonderful people. However, it also taught me firsthand what it feels like to be on your feet all day, and how important it is to care for your body.

In 1990–1991, I was honoured to win the Wella Service Excellence Award for South Australia, a highlight in my career that I’ll never forget. (Yes, that’s me in the photo with one of my lovely clients and yes, that very 90s hairdo was all the rage!)

I’ve been married to Brenton, a Chiropractor, for 37 years, and together we’ve proudly run our own Chiropractic clinic for 38 years. As a team, we’ve dedicated our lives to helping people live with less pain and more comfort. I’m also a proud mum of two and nothing teaches you more about care, resilience, and comfort than being a parent.

In 2019, I had the idea to introduce a small retail line into our clinic, something simple, natural, and genuinely helpful for our patients. I wanted to offer something that people could take home to support their recovery between treatments. That idea turned into ‘A Sack Of Wheat.’

I knew from personal experience what worked for pain relief and I also knew from my background in Visual Merchandising that functional things can (and should) look great too. My goal was to create wheat bags that people would not only love to use, but actually feel good about showing off. No drab corduroy, no outdated florals…just stylish, fun, and soothing designs that you wouldn’t be embarrassed to use at your desk or on the couch.

What started as a handful of designs has grown into a vibrant online store offering over 60 unique wheat bag styles from classic to quirky and everything in between. We’re proud to be a ‘little different to the rest’ and we love giving people choices that reflect their personality, not just their pain.

Every wheat bag we create is filled with 100% South Australian wheat, grown just 20 minutes from our Murray Bridge home by a local Callington farmer. I LOVE that I know exactly where our wheat comes from, how it’s stored, that it's clean, safe, high quality and most importantly it’s not imported. Keeping our footprint low and supporting local is something I care deeply about.

My business was doing really well and life was good until…… I became my own customer.

In 2022, my personal journey with pain took a surprising turn. I developed a bulging disc in my L4 & L5, and it completely shook me. The pain was intense and relentless. Both my GP and Brenton confirmed the diagnosis, and before I knew it, I was undergoing a microdiscectomy.

During those weeks leading up to surgery, and in the recovery that followed, heat therapy was one of the only things that brought any real relief. I remember being in hospital, constantly asking for the heat packs to be reheated and reheated because it made such a difference to the nerve pain shooting down my leg. I kept thinking ‘these heat packs are relieving the pain better than anything else!’ That experience changed how I look at A Sack Of Wheat and the purpose it serves.

Today, I’m grateful to be fully recovered, thanks to a combination of ongoing Chiropractic care, Pilates, funky heat packs (of course!), and learning how to better manage stress. That experience only deepened my understanding of our customers and the real need for products that support healing in a natural, comforting way.

A Sack Of Wheat isn’t just a product line, it’s a part of my story. It’s about helping people feel better, feel seen, and feel proud of the choices they make for their own wellbeing. Whether you’re dealing with sore muscles, stress, chronic pain, or simply love the comfort of a warm wheat bag on a cold day, I’m so glad you’re here.

Thank you for stopping by and being part of our story.

Warmly,

Tania
